Human Variation and Race 1. Heat negatively impacts the survival of humans by disturbing homeostasis when the body either gets too hot or looses to much heat. When our bodies get hot our body's way of regulating itself is by sweating. Sweat helps the body cool down, but while we sweat our bodies are not only getting rid of water they are also getting rid of important things like electrolytes, like sodium and chloride. If our bodies lose enough water and electrolytes and we do not replenish them, this can cause serious harm to our bodies. We can become dehydrated which can make us tired, get headaches, and become confused. Becoming too hot also poses health risks, if our body temperature reaches 104 degrees Fahrenheit, we can get what is known as a heat stroke, this can bring on symptoms of confusion, fainting, vomiting, seizures, coma, and even death. Heatstroke is a real medical emergency. 2. Four ways in which humans have adapted to this stress are:  Short term adaptati...

Language

Language is a very important part of how we communicate with people.Sometimes I think we take for granted our ability to use a spoken language, because it is something that just comes natural. Doing this language exercise ended up being pretty difficult, but also very eye opening. In the first assignment we were supposed to communicate with someone without using any form of spoken language, or any sign language.I found it very difficult to communicate with my partner, and they were the ones trying to make conversation. I tried to use signs and nodding my head to answer but it quickly became a conversation were my partner was just making it short asking mostly yes or no answer questions. My partner was the who was in control the entire conversation, because if I tried to ask something he would have a hard time understanding what I was trying to communicate. I have to admit that by the time the 15 minutes were up we were both pretty frustrated that we couldn't commun...

The Piltdown Man Hoax

In England in the year of 1912 an amateur geologist by the name Charles Dawson claimed that he had discovered the remains of what seemed to be the piece of information needed to prove that humans had evolved from chimpanzees. He had found the fragment of a skull. He then enlisted the help of Arthur Smith Woodward who was the keeper of Geology at the Natural History Museum. Together they continued to dig and found a jawbone, set of teeth, and other fragments of bone. These fragments were all believed to be from the same individual. In that same year they announced their findings ar a Geological Society meeting, where their story was accepted. Their story was believed to be credible until about 1949 when people had been showing doubts to the findings and at the time new technology had made it possible for specimens to be dated with more accuracy. It was then that Dr. Kenneth Oakley used fluorine tests and discovered that the remains could not be more tha...

Historical Influences on Darwin

Charles Darwin was an English Naturalist, who was best known for his contribution to the Theory of Evolution. During his lifetime Darwin had many influences that contributed to his findings. One person in particular who had a big influence on Darwin was Thomas Malthus. Thomas Malthus was an English economist, who is best known for his theory that the population growth would always surpass the food supply. "Population will always expand to the limit of substance."(Encyclopedia Britannica 2019) The Malthusian theory stated that the human population would increase geometrically, while natural resources would increase arithmetically.        Thomas Malthus's views helped Darwin develop his own findings on natural selection. Like Malthus, Darwin believed that those who were most adaptable would survive and the the weakest of the population would die off, this is known as natural selection, also seen as survival of the fittest. It is hard to say ...
